Nihilist (3% of surveyed)

Nihilism is the denial of everything - God, philosophy, knowledge, morality and value. The immaterial world doesn't exist, and life has no meaning or purpose.

• If there is no good and evil, what is the difference between charity work and torturing kids for fun?
• If there is no objective good and evil, how did human consciousness develop?
• What's the difference between shooting at people and shooting at trees?
• If people are just physical phenomena, why do we punish murderers by throwing them into prison, but we don't do it to stones that fell on someone's head?
• If life has no meaning or purpose, why did you get up from bed? What are you looking forward to in life?
Would you like to know what other people think is the source of morality and meaning of life?

Agnostic (5% of surveyed)

Agnosticism holds that God's existence cannot be proven.

• Do you agree with this definition?
• How can you be sure that we will never be able to confirm whether God exists or not?
• What kind of evidence would you require to become convinced about God's existence?
• If such evidence were inaccessible, would that mean that God doesn't exist?
• If there were other evidence for God's existence, would you like to hear them?
• What prevents you from absolute rejection of God's existence?

If God doesn't care about people, then people shouldn't care about God either. Apatheists aren't bothered with their own faith nor other people's beliefs.

• Does this definition represent your attitude?
• Have you ever thought about topics of spirituality and God's existence?
• What happens to a person after death?
• If God actually exists, what difference should it make in our lives?
• How did you come to the conclusion that God doesn't care for people?
Would you like to get to know why faith is important to others?

Relativist (6% of surveyed)

Relativism holds that there is no absolute truth. Truth is whatever is believed to be true. Similarly with morality: Everyone defines for himself what good is. Religious relativism holds that all religions are equally true and equally important ways to express faith in God.

• If the truth is subjective, how can you explain that over thousands of years mathematicians around the world have perfectly created a coherent set of theorems? How is it possible that all of them agree on everything?
• When you say "Truth is subjective," isn't it making an objective statement?
• If good and evil are not objective, why do people keep the law?

Next

Back

Existentialist (23% of surveyed)

Existentialism holds that we are the only free beings that influence our lives. Because life has objectively no meaning, one needs to define it himself. The purpose of life is to exercise our own freedom and experience the world. People have complete control over their lives and decide who they are on their own. It often comes with the feeling of emptiness and meaninglessness.

• Why would one make up a purpose for his life if there is objectively none? Isn't it just fooling ourselves?
• Does good and evil exist objectively?
• Does doing good have any deeper meaning?
• Where does the search for significance in humans come from?

Next

Back

Humanist (3% of surveyed)

Humanism emphasizes the special value of a human person. It holds that humans are the ultimate being and the measure of everything. Purpose of life is determined by humans and found in a human. Humanists who deny the existence of God are called secular humanists. Christians also used to be called humanists, because they emphasized the inherent value and dignity of every person.

• What grounds do you have to believe human beings are special?
• What is the value of a human being?
• Are outstanding people more valuable than ordinary ones?
Would you like to hear the stories of others who also think humans have special value?

Next

Naturalist(1% of surveyed)

Naturalists deny the existence of God. They believe that the only existing entities are matter and energy. The universe is a blind mechanism and everything that is happening is determined by the laws of physics. People are highly developed biological machines, and their value comes only from their superiority over other animals.
• How could unguided physical and chemical processes create conscious and intentional thinking?
• Does good and evil exist objectively?
If yes, how do you know what is good or wrong?
If no, why can't we declare that torturing kids for fun is good?
If there is no good and evil, then what is consciousness and how did it develop?
• Where do laws of nature come from and why aren't they inconsistent?
Would you like to hear what others think is the source of morality, existence of consciousness and complexity of nature?

Deist (11% of surveyed)

Deism holds that God created the world, but he no longer controls it. It compares God creating the world to a watchmaker winding a clock and leaving it to itself. In this worldview, the universe is a blind mechanism. Everything that happens is determined by the laws of nature and there is no free will.

• Why do you think that there actually is some kind of God?
• How did you come to the conclusion that God is not involved in the world?
• For what purpose did God create the world then?
• Are you sure that God cannot be known personally?
• If God could be known personally, how much (on scale from 1 to 10) would you be interested?

God is in the material world; he doesn't exist without matter. God = the universe. Everything that exists (including people) is part of one absolute. God doesn't exist outside of the universe, but rather is the force driving it. Pantheists believe in reincarnation.
• How did you come to the conclusion that there is reincarnation?
• What determines in what form will you be born the next time?
• If we all are a part of one absolute, why are there wars in the world?

Panentheist (1% of surveyed)

The world is a part of God. Therefore all events happening in this world have influence on him and can change him. There is also a part of God that is outside of the universe and remains timeless. God is more than just the universe.

• What is the immaterial part of God like?
• How is it possible that one part of God is in time and the other is timeless?
Doesn't such flattening of one dimension of God cause incompatibility within himself?

Christian Theist (23% of surveyed)

In Christian Theism the main source of knowledge about God and the world is the Bible. It says that God is the creator of everything. He made people in His image in order to have fellowship with them. However, people have decided to live independently. This self-will is contrary to God's plan and is called sin. Because God is holy and just, he cannot have fellowship with someone who has rebelled against Him. And since all people are imperfect, all are separated from God and deserve eternal condemnation. Ultimately, all people deserve to go to hell. But God in his love has sent his Son, Jesus, to live a perfect, sinless life and die a substitutionary death on the cross for our sins. This is the only way by which God could forgive our sins and remain just. One only needs to believe in Christ's death and resurrection and confess Him as one's personal Savior and Lord. This means having a willingness to turn away from one's sinful lifestyle and surrender one's life to God.
